White Gold Eternity Ring

A white gold diamond eternity band is often worn together with a wedding ring and engagement ring, but it is also acceptable to wear an eternity ring on the right hand separate from other rings. However, it is becoming increasingly popular to give an eternity ring as an engagement ring.

Traditionally a diamond eternity anniversary ring is given by the husband to his wife after one year of marriage, or following the birth of the first child. Some couples prefer to give an eternity ring after several years of marriage, and it can be in the same design as the wedding ring made with the same precious metal.

White gold diamond eternity rings have become very fashionable over the past few years, as opposed to the more traditional yellow gold eternity ring. To explain the differences:  gold is a pure element which is naturally yellow in colour. It is also a soft metal which is not strong enough to make a durable piece of jewellery.  To harden it and make it wearable it is “alloyed” by mixing it with other metals.

Pure gold is 24 karat, and in an alloy the parts out of 24 that are gold are called karat. So 12 karat gold is 12 parts gold and twelve parts other metals. To make yellow gold karat alloys of yellow gold the other metals used are silver and copper.

To make white gold then nickel or palladium are used.  Palladium is a platinum group metal that is a lot like platinum itself, but is lighter in weight and less expensive. It is hypo-allergenic, long wearing and naturally very white. In both yellow and white gold alloys small amounts of other metals such as zinc are also present to improve its malleability and casting quality.

As well as white gold eternity rings , the various styles on offer are also available as a platinum eternity ring and these are a popular option to be used as platinum eternity wedding bands.

Diamonds are the most popular gemstones used for eternity rings, but combinations such as a sapphire and diamond eternity ring or a white gold ruby eternity ring are popular choices.A ruby eternity ring for instance can be used to also represent the month the recipient was born where in this case the ruby gemstone represents the month of July and this can therefore give the eternity ring a double meaning.Other stones are also popular (usually in conjunction with diamonds) such as the emerald eternity ring collection or the radiant blue topaz eternity ring range. A white gold full eternity ring can cost twice as much as the half eternity because it has more diamonds. Because half diamond eternity rings have stones concentrated in the head of the ring, larger stones can be used,  and they will not rub the inside of the finger and are  more comfortable to wear. Fancy cut diamonds like square, oblong and rectangular stones are excellent choices for diamond eternity engagement settings because they can be closely set end to end forming a continuous band.

The unique eternity rings on offer are items of diamond jewellery that are usally only bought once in a lifetime, so we recommend that you buy the best ring that you can afford.
